Information night provides insight for prospective Doctors Academy students

FRESNO – Eighth-grade students interested in careers in health and medicine should plan on attending the Doctors Academy information night set for Thursday, November 6 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Sunnyside High School Cafeteria at 1019 S. Peach Avenue in Fresno.

The meeting is open to the public and all interested Fresno Unified and Fresno County eighth-grade students and their parents are invited to attend. Participants will learn about the Doctors Academy admissions requirements and expectations of the program. Current Doctors Academy students and Sunnyside High School staff members will be available to answer questions.

The Doctors Academy is a college preparatory program for educationally- and economically-disadvantaged students interested in professional careers in health or medicine. The program prepares high school students to become competitive applicants to four-year universities by providing them with a rigorous academic curriculum that includes experiences in research and clinical settings, service learning, and exposure to universities and colleges.

Enrollment is by application only. Applications are available online at: www.sunnyside.fresno.k12.ca.us The deadline to apply to the Doctors Academy for fall 2009 is December 1, 2008.
