Background
Some 600 medical students travel to Fresno every fall to tour UCSF-Fresno’s Medical Education Program and the Fresno community in pursuit of their ideal residency program. Of the 600, only 50 residents can potentially match with UCSF-Fresno to train at the prestigious Medical Education Program. As residents, UCSF-Fresno provides the training for the specialties they will ultimately practice, offering a choice of eight medical programs such as family practice, internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery and others. As a national standard, when both the resident and the prospective program mutually agree on the selection a “match” has occurred. This year, UCSF-Fresno matched 93 percent. UCSF-Fresno will confirm the results of the “match” by unveiling the new residents at a celebration press conference on Thursday, March 29 at 4pm.
Note to the media: UCSF-Fresno medical resident students will be on site to answer questions. For more information please contact Cara Peracchi Douglas at 559.243.3606, or on the day of the press conference at 559.289.8970.
