WHO:
Faculty physicians and medical residents from the UCSF Fresno Family and Community Medicine Residency Program will talk to more than 100 sixth‐grade students about health careers and resiliency.
WHAT:
In addition to talking to the students about the responsibilities and duties of physicians, faculty and residents at UCSF Fresno will share their personal stories, struggles and the obstacles that they have overcome on their paths to becoming doctors. The goal of the event is to inspire students and demonstrate the importance of perseverance, resiliency and believing in themselves.

WHY:
Medical residents from the UCSF Fresno Family and Community Medicine and Pediatrics residency programs have worked closely with students at Yokomi over the years – educating them about food and nutrition and encouraging exercise by holding “Dancing with Doctors” sessions at the school.
Background: This career day is another example of UCSF Fresno’s efforts to improve health outside of the clinical setting and create a pipeline of future physicians for the San Joaquin Valley.
Ivan Albert Gomez, MD, who was recently appointed chief of family and community medicine at UCSF Fresno, is committed to expanding existing collaborations and forming new partnerships to address the health care access and workforce development needs in the region.
