FRESNO – February is American Heart Month and an ideal time to make changes to improve one’s heart health. To help educate women of all ages on heart health, UCSF Fresno Medical Education Program, along with Central California Faculty Medical Group and Community Regional Medical Center, will hold a free Women’s Heart Fair on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 9 am to 1 pm in the UCSF Fresno Auditorium, located at 155 N. Fresno Street, in downtown Fresno. Parking will be available in the UCSF Fresno lot with access off of Illinois Street.
Heart disease, traditionally considered a “man’s disease,” is now the leading cause of death for women in the U.S., says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Each year, about the same number of women die from heart disease as men, but the warning signs, if present, and risk factors differ in women than in men and across ethnicities.
Faculty physicians at UCSF Fresno will speak to the following:
- “Women and Heart Disease” by Teresa Daniele, MD, FACC, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCSF and Medical Director of the Center for Women’s Cardiovascular Disease at Community Regional Medical Center
- “Heart Failure” by Richard Kiel, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCSF and Medical Director of Heart Failure at Community Regional Medical Center
- “Pulmonary Hypertension” by Vijay Balasubramanian, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine, UCSF and Medical Director of Pulmonary Hypertension at Community Regional Medical Center
Free, 30‐minute health screenings, including blood pressure, height, weight, body mass index, cholesterol and glucose readings will be offered as well as instruction in stress reduction and yoga techniques.
