FRESNO – In the spirit of the holidays and giving back to the community, UCSF Fresno medical residents will prepare and serve dinner for families staying at Terry’s House (2730 Fresno Street) at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 4 to 8 pm. Medical residents will be joined by a group of students from Roosevelt High School who are interested in careers in medicine.
The event was organized by the UCSF Fresno Resident Council, which comprises members selected from the UCSF Fresno medical residency programs. The goal of the council is to give residents, a voice in their education, foster camaraderie and promote resident well being while serving the community.
In addition to volunteering at Terry’s House, members of the UCSF Fresno Resident Council are mentoring students from Roosevelt High School. Students benefit from the experience of the medical residents and learn the importance of serving the community while caring for patients.
Terry’s House is a home away from home for families with loved ones who are hospitalized at Community Regional. The medical care available at Community brings patients to downtown Fresno from a 15,000 square-mile region that spans nine counties. The most critically sick and injured can be hospitalized for weeks or months. Thanks to Terry’s House, families can cook, eat, sleep, shower and importantly, stay close by their loved one in the hospital.
