Hobbies, fun facts and interests
Hobbies: I occasionally make with the sports, specifically ice hockey (which, surprisingly, you CAN do in Fresno) and ultimate frisbee. Like almost everyone else here, I also love to spend time in the outdoors hiking and skiing. I’ve been trying to climb all of the 14ers in Colorado, but my detour to Ohio for medical school has slowed me down a little bit, so I’m super excited to be back in a mountainous area of the country.
Facts: I collect hockey jerseys and have way more than I should. I also created a viral flash video in middle school called Don’t Touch That! (google it for some early 00s nostalgia).
Interests: I love music and while I’m godawful at playing it, I love to listen to it and tell others why the music they love is bad. It’s a great way to make friends. I also love going to live shows and festivals as time permits. When I have down time, I like to read weird 20th century postmodern fiction by authors like David Foster Wallace and Thomas Pynchon and every now and then I get obsessed with a video game for like a month before forgetting it exists. I also love Chipotle and even though I am now surrounded by multitudes of better taco options, Chipotle will always have a special, burrito-shaped place in my heart.
Why Fresno?
The ED here is just such an awesome place to train. Having a huge catchment area that spans most of the valley plus some of the surrounding wilderness makes for a varied patient population with a wide range of pathology. I also wanted to make sure I worked for a safety-net hospital so I could care for those who need it most and CMC certainly provides that. On top of the amazing training here, everyone I’ve met has been so down-to-earth and friendly. AND there’s so many opportunities to learn wilderness medicine! It was an obvious choice.
