Hobbies, facts and interests
Fun facts: I have been a lacto-vegetarian my entire life; aka I have never had meat or eggs ever. Also, I grew up in a multi-generational household in India where 20 of us lived under one roof. I’m the youngest one on both my paternal and maternal sides (I have over 20 cousins!).
Hobbies: Going to the gym, playing and watching basketball, hiking, exploring new restaurants, trying bougie lattes (lavender oat milk lattes are my weakness), watching cricket, and hanging out with family and taking day trips to mountains and beaches.
Interests: Social EM, community engagement projects, language accessibility for patients and community members, immigrant and rural health, farmworker health, mentoring first generation students, and global health.
Why Fresno?
Fresno was an easy #1 choice while ranking residency programs for many reasons. I grew up in the Central Valley and consider Fresno my new home. I wanted to be in close proximity to my family during residency and beyond. Besides personal reasons and strong social network in Fresno, UCSF-Fresno’s EM residency program is very academically strong, which would provide me unparalleled clinical training and exposure to diverse pathology. I’m interested in rural, farmworker, and immigrant health and Fresno checks all these boxes in the patient population that CRMC serves. Also, there is a large Punjabi-speaking community in the Central Valley and I could use my Punjabi skills to provide direct, trustworthy care to many vulnerable folks. I’m most excited about providing care to intentionally marginalized communities and learning from and with them. Lastly, the close proximity of Fresno to nature (both mountains and water activities) makes it an appealing place to do residency.
