Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine residency at UCSF Fresno. I am very proud of our residency program and of the experience we can provide for you. We have a structured, collegial learning environment that affords trainees a high degree of autonomy with an amazing patient population. I am a local graduate of the residency program and am thrilled to continue my career teaching and caring for patients in Fresno. I currently attend on the inpatient wards at both of our major teaching hospitals. I am passionate about cultivating resident teaching skills, technology in teaching, training our residents in procedural competencies, and in simulation. I am most proud of the quality of our graduates. The training they receive in Fresno prepares them well for a career in hospital medicine, primary care, academics, or further subspecialty training. Our graduates are very competitive in fellowships as well as general internal medicine positions. |
Our program provides you with the opportunity to work closely with a committed and talented faculty who are both well-trained clinicians and dedicated teachers. You will work with dedicated hospitalists on the inpatient wards, ambulatory internists in your continuity clinics and subspecialists on your subspecialty elective services. Many of our faculty members participate in clinical research activities in the UCSF Fresno Center for Clinical Studies. Within the Center, we have initiated a number of collaborative research studies in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care, HIV, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis B, Preventive Cardiology, and Sleep Medicine. UCSF Fresno is a member of the UCSF SCOR on ARDS, the ARDS Network I and III. All of our categorical residents participate in a research project culminating in their third year, and a number of them choose to work in these research areas.
We currently have ACGME- accredited fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Hematology/Oncology, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Sleep Medicine, and Interventional Cardiology, as well as a shared responsibility with Family and Community Medicine for the Hospice & Palliative Care fellowship.
We take advantage of a unique relationship with UCSF main campus. This relationship allows us to provide our trainees with excellent clinical experience in a community setting while also providing the opportunity to work with university faculty members in Fresno. Most of our patients present to us undiagnosed, allowing the residents the opportunity to build their clinical decision-making.
Our facilities in Fresno include the UCSF Fresno Center for Medical Education and Research: a state-of-the-art educational building with a 21st-century medical library, clinical skills teaching area and computer support facilities. Our two teaching hospitals are Community Regional Community Medical Center, the busiest level 1 trauma center in California and largest emergency facility in the state, as well as state-of-the-art intensive care units. Our new Ambulatory Care Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center. We also have robust inpatient, ambulatory, and subspecialty experience at the VA CCHCS, which has one of the largest catchment areas of any VA hospital.
